Buying plane tickets to Ethiopia without having a firm court date is kind of like 4th down in a football game. If you've only got a few inches standing in the way of a first down, do you go for it, or do you play it safe and punt? If we get the first down, it will have been a brilliant move to go for it! If not, we'll wonder why we didn't punt.
Here's the connection: we expect to be in court in Ethiopia on November 26, but that date is subject to change based on the outcome of the initial proceedings that are scheduled to take place on October 28. October 28 is our first court date, for which we are not present. For a variety of reasons, families often do not pass court on the first try. That is why there is a month in between court dates, to work out any issues that arise on the first date. There is a chance, though, that our November 26 date will be pushed back.
We decided to go for the first down, and we purchased tickets to Ethiopia for November 26. The tickets were relatively inexpensive, thanks to the tremendous help provided by Susan Parr Travel in Washington. We can change the tickets if necessary, but we hope and pray that the dates don't change. The price we'd pay to change the tickets is manageable, but the heartbreak of having to wait even longer to meet Baby A is too much!
We are praying for a Thanksgiving spent in Ethiopia, holding our baby girl!
