Wednesday Afternoon

After we finished the coffee ceremony, we returned to Bejoe and asked a Gladney caretaker to be with Arri for the afternoon, so we could do some shopping. We went to the "Souvenir Shops" and bought presents for Arri, to give to her as she grows up. We got her a coffee ceremony set, balls, puzzles, dresses, and jewelry. We had bought a lot of gifts on our first trip, and especially loved the IEC bazaar. I regret not going to the Alert hospital, where people who have leprosy make scarves, tablecloths, and clothing, as a means of supporting themselves. For others who travel to Ethiopia, my advice is to buy far more gifts than you think you'll need! I wish we had bought more.

When we got back to Bejoe, we put Arri's gifts around her in the garden, and took photos to show to her later on in her life!
